2006 HGTV Dream home

The 2006 HGTV Dream Home is filled with an assortment of technologies allowing for modern conveniences while still keeping the look and feel of a traditional mountain home. When Land Resource Group and Platt Architecture approached us to design and install the electronic systems for the 2006 HGTV Dream Home, aesthetics was the major concern on everyone’s mind. In keeping with the traditional mountain theme, we installed a home theater, whole house music, lighting control, motorized window treatments, and structured wiring systems. These electronic systems will allow the homeowner to have a beautiful mountain getaway with all the technological conveniences of modern living that will surely make this house a Dream Home.

Home Theater

How can you have a traditional mountain home, with no evidence of a home theater, and still enjoy high definition video and surround sound? This was accomplished in the lower level Family Room with a Pioneer Elite 50-inch plasma monitor over the fireplace and a concealed 7.1 Dolby Digital surround sound system. The surround sound experience was reproduced with seven Niles Audio Directed Soundfield loudspeakers flush-mounted into the ceiling for the left front, center, right front, surround, and rear loudspeakers. These Directed Soundfield loudspeakers have an independently pivoted woofer and tweeter assembly that allow the loudspeaker to focus sound directly toward the listening area of the room. Since these in-ceiling loudspeakers have metal frames and grills, they have been painted to blend into their environment. The subwoofer is also hidden in front cabinetry for an unobtrusive appearance in a traditional mountain home setting.

The home theater can view HDTV satellite, DVD, and VCR as well as listen to the house CD player, AM/FM radio, and the Audio-Request jukebox system. All home theater and lighting system functions are controlled with a Crestron tabletop automation touchpanel.

Whole House Music

Music is a big part of life and one of the best things about the 2006 HGTV Dream Home is the ability to surround yourself with your favorite music for relaxation or entertainment anywhere in the home. Loudspeakers and volume controls are located in the Outdoor Living Room, Kitchen, Dining Room, Breakfast Nook, Great Room, Main Terrace, Master Bedroom, Master Bathroom, Gameroom, Family Room, Lower Terrace, Exercise Room, and Project Room. Music is controlled via three Crestron in-wall touchpanels located in the Kitchen, Master Bedroom, and Exercise Room. The homeowner can listen to the house compact disc player, AM/FM radio, or the Audio-Request jukebox system all of which can be controlled from the Crestron touchpanels. The Audio-Request jukebox can record regular compact discs or MP3 files to its hard drive for music playback throughout the home. Artist, song title, genre, and much more can be displayed and controlled from any Crestron touchpanel location. Multiple Audio-Request jukeboxes can be linked together through the Internet to download your favorite music from any location in the world to your 2006 HGTV Dream Home.

Lighting Control

The security, convenience, and aesthetics of the 2006 HGTV Dream Home are greatly enhanced by the Lutron Homeworks Interactive whole-house lighting control system. This system automatically turns on landscape and security lighting each night and provides the ability to turn interior pathways on instantly using a single button on various control keypads located throughout the home. Lighting scenes are programmed and controlled from many of these keypad locations. This eliminates the tedious task of setting the home lighting just right for daily activities, bedtime, or special occasions. The control keypads also provide a clean, elegant look on the wall by combining the functions of many standard switches and dimmers into a single control. The lighting system is also connected to the Internet and allows the homeowner to control their home lighting from any computer in the world.

Motorized Window Treatments

The Lutron Sivoia QED (Quiet Electronic Drive) motorized window treatments in the Great Room and Kitchen protect the hardwood floors and furnishings in the 2006 HGTV Dream Home from harmful UV rays. They also reduce glare and increase privacy. Since these window treatments are manufactured by Lutron, they have been integrated into the lighting control system and are controlled via keypads in the Great Room and Kitchen.

Home Automation

What can a Crestron home automation system do for the 2006 HGTV Dream Home? It can combine all of the other electronic systems in the home into one easy whole-house remote control system. Automation touchpanels are located in the Kitchen, Master Bedroom, Exercise Room, and Family Room. These touchpanels allow for control of the home theater, whole-house music, lighting control, motorized window treatments, and heating and air controls. The home automation system is also connected to the Internet and allows the homeowner to control any of these technologies from any computer in the world.

Structured Wiring

The 2006 HGTV Dream Home is completely wired for current and future communication and entertainment technologies. Structured wiring outlets are placed at television and computer locations throughout the home and allow distribution and access to popular technologies such as telephone, internal computer networking, DSL and cable modem, fax and data transfer, satellite and cable television, audio-video distribution, interactive television, and WEBTV to name a few. You may be in the mountains but you are always connected to technology through this structured wiring system.
